Hotel Obersteinberg
One of the most rewarding full-day walks in the Jungfrau Region, taking you deep into the back of the Lauterbrunnen Valley to a remote mountain hotel that can only be reached on foot or by helicopter. Supplies are delivered by mule. Take the cable car down to Gimmelwald and follow the valley path through forest and past waterfalls before opening onto high pasture land with the Rottal glacier and the spectacular Schmadribach Falls ahead of you. Stop for lunch at Hotel Obersteinberg — one of the most remote and magical spots in the Alps. Strong hikers can add the optional side trip to the Oberhornsee, a remote glacial lake about 1 hour beyond Obersteinberg.

If you have the energy, the detour to Oberhornsee is one of the best places in the region to spot ibex in the wild. Or stay overnight at the hotel and turn it into a two-day hike — there's plenty to see back in the valley!

Getting There
From Mürren take the Schilthornbahn cable car down one stop to Gimmelwald. Follow signs towards Stechelberg / Obersteinberg. The trail to Obersteinberg branches off right approximately 1 hour into the walk.
