Your Gateway to Unique Adventures in the Swiss Alps

Planning a hiking trip to the Swiss Alps? If you’re looking for breathtaking views, car-free charm, and unforgettable alpine adventures, Mürren is the hidden gem you’ve been searching for.

Nestled on a sunny terrace high above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, Mürren is the ultimate base for hiking, paragliding, and immersive mountain experiences.

But first—how do you get to Mürren, Switzerland?
Let’s break it down step-by-step so your journey is just as smooth as the trails waiting for you.

🚞 Mürren Is a Car-Free Village

Mürren is a peaceful, car-free mountain village tucked away in the heart of the Swiss Alps. You can’t drive right into the village itself, but getting here is easy—just hop on a cable car and enjoy the views. Whether you're arriving by train, bus, or car, the journey is smooth, scenic, and sets the tone for your alpine adventure.

✨ Step 1: Get to Lauterbrunnen or Stechelberg

Whether you're arriving from Zurich, Geneva, Bern, or Interlaken, your first destination will be Lauterbrunnen or Stechelberg.

  • From Interlaken Ost, take the train to Lauterbrunnen (approx. 20 minutes).

  • If you’re driving, you’ll park your car in Lauterbrunnen or Stechelberg, where long-term parking is available (see below).

🚡 Two Ways Up to Mürren — Which to Choose?

There are two main ways to get to Mürren, and they bring you to opposite ends of the village—about a 7-10 minute walk apart. Mürren is small and walkable, but it’s still smart to check where your accommodation or meeting point is before choosing your route.

Option A: Lauterbrunnen – Grütschalp – Mürren

This scenic route drops you off on the northern end of Mürren and includes:

  1. Cable Car from Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp (4 minutes)

  2. Mountain Train from Grütschalp to Mürren (10 minutes)

You'll enjoy sweeping views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau along the way.

Option B: Stechelberg – Gimmelwald – Mürren

This route brings you to the southern end of Mürren via the Schilthorn cableway, and now you have two options:

  1. Direct Cable Car: From Stechelberg straight to Mürren — this is the new, faster option and takes only about 4 minutes.

  2. Traditional Route: From Stechelberg to Gimmelwald, then continue by cable car to Mürren — this option is still running and offers a scenic stop in a charming mountain hamlet.

This route climbs past waterfalls and sheer cliffs—an adventure before the adventure!

🗺️ Tip: Mürren is walkable from end to end in around 7 minutes. But if you're traveling with luggage or meeting a hiking guide, it’s worth choosing the side that gets you closest to where you need to be. 📱 Check Transport Times with the SBB App
